Has anyone ever asked you this question “if everything had a cause or a beginning then who caused God to come into existence?” This question came up in my conversation with an atheist friend regarding the origin of the universe. He was stating that “the universe came into existence as the result of the big bang”. I asked him the question who caused the bang? If at one point there was nothing how do you get a bang without something or someone causing the bang? This would contradict the law of cause and effect. He could see the dilemma then He asked me the question “if the law of cause and effect requires a cause for everything then who caused God to come to be? “There is a flaw in this statement that we could easily miss. The law of cause and effect states that everything that has come into existence requires a cause not that everything has a cause. If we go far back enough something or someone was the original cause of the universe. That something or someone by its nature has to be “uncaused” since that something or someone started the universe. That something or someone we give the name “God”. God is an uncaused being since he caused everything to come to be therefore the law of cause and effect does not apply to him because he is the original cause of everything, in another words He is “eternal”. He has always been there.
